This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Regional status of outbreak (All data from May 19 at 5 p.m.) California County Carlsbad Confirmed cases 81,904 6,026 71 Increase from day before 1,374 80 0 Deaths 3,296 222 n/a Parks & Recreation • Following City Council direction, opened active use areas of city parks to single-household groups starting today at 2 p.m. except for: o Playgrounds, picnic shelters, community centers and aquatic centers, in keeping with the county and/or state orders o Nine school athletic fields and the Carlsbad High School tennis courts, which are under joint use agreements o Half-court basketball courts at community parks, to allow for socially distancing o Half of the pickleball courts at Poinsettia Community Park, also for socially distancing • City dog parks also open at 2 p.m. today. Human Resources • Status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure: Cleared to return to work 43 Self-quarantined, awaiting test results 1 CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS May 20, 2020 Page 2 Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o Reminder for City Council meeting start time, how to watch and participate o Recap of the action taken by City Council to reopen city parks to active uses with modifications and the county Board of Supervisors action to allow seated dine-in restaurants and in-person shopping at retail stores and request for state to move more quickly into Stage 3 o Slideshow of what will be open at parks for active uses starting today at 2 p.m. o Reminders of virtual family story time o Virtual Good Life Lecture on stress management and nutrition o Sew2Care video created by Carlsbad High School robotics team highlighting their involvement o Thank you to first responders during National Emergency Medical Professionals Week o Promotion of upcoming live living room concert series o Leo Carrillo Ranch history mystery o National Public Works Week recognition o County of San Diego news article summarizing action taken by Board of Supervisors o Wellness Wednesday healthy food strategies class • Prepared and distributed daily email update from the city: o Overview of revised criteria announced by governor for counties to reopen sooner that statewide health order allows o Preview of timing for easing of state restrictions to allow personal care services, religious services and professional sports to reopen with modifications o Latest COVID-19 case numbers o Involvement of Carlsbad High School robotics team in Sew2Care program o Guidance for homeowners’ associations o Recognition of city public works staff on National Public Works Week o Reminder of City Council meeting start time, how to watch and submit comments • Updated dashboard showing what is open and under what modifications. • Coordinated the mailing of 993 postcards to business owners about how to safely flush out plumbing systems that have been dormant. • Replied to two council inquires on COVID-19-related topics. • Responded to 12 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement Department’s email.
