This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center • Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. Regional status of outbreak (All data from May 27 at 5 p.m.) California County Carlsbad Confirmed cases 100,146 6,983 75 Increase from day before 2,963 101 2 Deaths 3,838 255 n/a Public Works • Five high schools submitted permit requests to hang banners along Carlsbad Village Drive at Carlsbad Boulevard and Carlsbad Village Drive at State Street to recognize graduating seniors. The schools include Carlsbad High School, Sage Creek High School, Carlsbad Seaside and Village Academies (combined in one banner), La Costa Canyon High School and Pacific Ridge. Banners are expected to be provided by high schools or organizers next week for installation by city staff. • The Safety Training Center successfully reopened for use by other public agencies on May 26. Users followed social distancing and other requirements. Human Resources • Distributed reusable face coverings for employees at the Carlsbad Municipal Water District. • No change in status of employees with possible COVID-19 exposure: 44 employees cleared to return to work. CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS May 28, 2020 Page 2 Parks & Recreation • Launched Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park virtual field trips. • Launched Pine Ave Community Center Culinary Lab’s weekly series of interactive instructional cooking classes. • Postponed the Carlsbad Triathlon, originally scheduled for July 11-12. Event has been tentatively rescheduled for November 15, 2020, at the request of the city’s contractual organizer. • Allowed for one-on-one outdoor recreation instruction in parks, provided the instructor and the student follow social distancing and face covering requirements, in keeping with the updated public health order and the city manager’s authorization. • Allowed for one-on-one outdoor recreation instruction at The Crossings at Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course, under the same requirements, in keeping with the public health order. Library & Cultural Arts • Hosting a virtual workshop today on Facebook Live with the artistic director of the renowned Ballet Folklorico de Los Angeles introducing dances from various regions of Mexico. Communication & Engagement • Created and shared the following with the public on city communication channels: o Video highlighting the importance of wearing a mask and who it protects in the community o City staff wearing face coverings and sharing why they are important o CDC video explaining the importance of washing your hands with soap and water o Legoland’s creative way of honoring frontline workers o Reopening of some DMV offices and expanded online services o San Diego Dance Theater’s senior dance video for National Senior Health and Fitness Day o Transportation staff riding bikes to celebrate National Bike Month at home o State Street Farmer’s Market schedule o New Play@Home activities o San Diego Humane Society’s pet food pantry program o Schedule for family move night at home o Carrillo Ranch history mystery • Prepared and distributed daily email update from the city: o County guidance around the reopening of places of worship, hair salons, barber shops and one-on-one sport instruction o Updated case numbers and charts o Reopening of more DMV offices and online services o Carlsbad students get national recognition for National Merit Scholarships o New and improved Play@Home webpage and new activities CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS May 28, 2020 Page 3 • Updated COVID-19 webpages: o Updated county health order at a glance o Added new Play@Home activities o Added news release on new openings and health order o Added new online training workshops for staff and posted webinar recordings • Finalized the new virtual building inspection program webpage and flyer. • Produced 150 beach rules flyers for distribution by police. • Produced four social distancing posters for the Homeless Outreach Team. • Replied to three COVID-19-related council inquiries. • Responded to 16 questions and comments on the city’s social media platforms and Communication & Engagement Department’s email.
