This extension aligns with the San Diego County Library system’s due date. All three library locations are accepting returned library materials 24/7. Even though overdue fines are currently not accruing during the pandemic, the library is encouraging community members to return materials they’ve finished for the next person to enjoy. • Based on the most recent study on library materials and COVID-19 by the Reopening Archives, Libraries and Museums project, the library is now quarantining returned library materials for seven days before they are added back into the collection for the next person to check out. The project, known as REALM, is being conducted by the Institute of Museum and Library Services; OCLC, a global library cooperative; and the nonprofit development company Battelle. • Beginning on Aug. 31, Dove and Cole Libraries will be hosting census team members for several hours a day to allow community members who have yet to take the census to do so from their cars during curbside library service. In mid-September, bilingual census staff will also visit the Library Learning Center.
