The following statements have been prepared and filed by the candidates and are distributed at the candidate's expense. This pamphlet does not contain a complete list of all the candidates. A complete list of candidates appears on the sample ballot. (BUD) LEWIS OCCUPATION: Teacher/Coach AGE: 46 Education and Qualifications: BA San Diego State, 1956; Graduate work San Diego State, 1957, Resident Carlsbad — 20 years. Married 22 years and have 2 children. Have taught government classes in high school and adult education. Presently instructor in U.S. History. Have 8 years experience on Carlsbad City Council. As a councilman I supported the following: Closer cooperation between city and school in usage of joint recreational facilities; Developer fees for anticipated school growth; Expansion of El Camino Plaza, Car Country, and selected light industry; Development of HUD housing and re-develop- ment of the downtown area; Banning of alcohol on Carlsbad beaches; Building of the swimming pool; Voter determination on mergence of City Water Dept. and CMWD; Paul Bussey as City Manager, Paramedics units and purchase of St. Patricks for a recreational center. I have opposed expansion of Palomar Airport; the 400 ft. stack at S.D. Gas & Electric until pollution corrected; the refinery. Any increase in density around Agua Hedionda Lagoon including Pannonia Housing De- velopment; All major development projects until sewer problems are resolved. NOMBRE: CLAUDE A. Casado 22 anos y tenemos 2 hijos. He ensenado clases de Gobierno en la esculea secundaria y en la escuela para adultos. Actualmente soy instructor en la Historia de EE. UU. Llevo 8 anos de experiencia en el Concejo Municipal de Carlsbad. Como concejal, he apoyado lo siguiente: Una cooperacion mas estrecha entre la ciudad y las escuelas en el uso de facilidades recreativas comunes; cargos a los constructores por concepto del crecimiento anticipado de la poblacion escolar; la expansion de El Camino Plaza, Car Country, y otras industrias ligeras escogidas; el desarrollo de viviendas por medio del Departamento de Viviendas y Urbanizacion y la reurbanizacion del centro de la ciudad; la prohibicion del alcohol en las playas de Carlsbad; la construccion de la piscina; la determinacion por medio de los electores acerca de la fusion del Departamento de Agua Municipal con el Distrito de Agua Municipal de Carlsbad; a Paul Bussey para Administrador Munici- pal; unidades de paramedicos; y la compra de Saint Patrick's para un centro de recreos. Me he opuesto a la expansion del Aeropuerto de Palomar; a la chimenea de 400 pies de altura de S. D. I have sat with You and watched some elected and appointed officials smugly tell us our opinions are not valid, our fears unfounded, and our research insignificant. It's time for a change. We need new people in government, with fresh ideas; people who will listen and respect the citizens who put them in office.
