Final Report on
Compacted Filled Ground
,- Gentlemen:
RECEIVED
OCT 15 1973
CITY 01; CARLSBAD Engineering Department
This is to summarire the conclusions regarding the final soil conditions existing below the
presently proposed finished grades on Lot 8, La Costa Greens, California.
Our letter of October 5, 1973 reported three field density tests taken after the removal of
approximately 30 inches of select import compacted filled ground previously inspected and
tested on this site. As of this time the expansive sandy clay soils are now exposed in some areas
and ore within close enough proximity to the surface to require special design and precautions.
Therefore, the recommendations presented for the design of footings and concrete slabs ta mini-
mize the adverse effects of the potentially exoansive soils presented on page 3 of our report
dated May 28, 1970 now apply.
-
These recommendations are repeated 01 follows:
1. Isolated interior piers should not be used. Continuous footings should be used
throughout, mtd these should be placed at a minimum depth of two feet below
the lowest adlacent exterior final ground surface.
2. Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all interior ond
exterior footings with one #5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of all footings
and one #5 bar placed 1 l/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings.
3. Use raised wood floors that span between continuous footings, or reinforce all
concrete slabs with 6 x 6 - lO/lO woven wire fabric and provide a minimum of
4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete slabs. Provide a moisture barrier
2 inches below slobs under living areas.

4. Separate garage slabs from perimeter footings by l/2 inch thickness of construc-
tion felt or equivalent, to allow independent movement of garclge slabs relative
to perimeter footings.
-
5. Provide positive droinage oway from oil perimeter footings to a horizontol distance
of at least 6 feet oukide the house walls.
