Tests were also taken in soils placed as backfill over utili!y lines in Unlt No. 1 and in compacted filled gmund placed on Lok 466, 467, 468, 469, and 470 of La Costa Meadows Unit No. 3. Compac- ting of filled ground has nat been completed on Lot 185 and the results of final tests and inspec- tlons on this lot will be included in our flnal report on this unit. The fills on Unit No. 1 reported herein were placed during the period between November 9, 1970 and September 20, 1971. The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications are shown on the attached Drawing No. 1, entitled “Location of Compacted Filled Ground.” The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was prepared by Rick Engineering Company and last revised January 29, 1971. INC. - Proiect No. 70-lO-28D Rancha ,La Costa -3- October 12; 1971 The final resulk of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled graund has been placed at 90 percent of the maxlmum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value of 1930 pounds per square foot far one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum depth of one faot below finish grade and placed five feet or more inside the tap of compacted filled ground slopes. If footings am placed closer ta the exposed sloper than 5 feet inside the tap of compacted filled ground slopes, these should be deepened l ne Foot below a 1 l/2 horlzantal to 1 vertical line prolected ouhvard and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. Tesk indicate that the campacted filled ground is adequate ta satisfactorily support the proposed wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlemenk. Expansive clay, silty clay, and sandy clay soils were placed In the upper three feet in certain compacted fill areas and alsa exist in the upper three feet belaw finfshed gmde in certain cut amas. Avoid the use of isolated interior piers. Use continuous footings throughout, and place these at a minimum depth of two feet below the lowest odiocent exterior final ground surface. Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars all interior and exterior footings with one #5 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of the footlngs and one #5 bar placed 1 l/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings. Exercise every effort to assure that the soil under the foundations and slatxl has a uniform moisture content, 1 percent to 3 percent greater than optimum through- out the tcp 3 feet below ffnished gmde at the time of placing foundations and slabs. Use raised wooden floors that span between continuous footings, or use all concrete slabs with 6 x 6 - lo/10 welded wire fabric and provide a minlmum of 4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete slabs. A moisture barrier should be provided in the sand layer 2 inches below slabs under living areas. Separate garage slabs from perimeter Footings by a l/2 inch thickness of con- struction felt or equivalent, to allow independent movement of garage slabs relative to perimeter footings. Assure complete separation by extending the felt over the full depth of the front thickened edge of the garage slab. Also, cut off the gamge door stops at least l/2 inch above the slab. Provide positive dminage away from all perimeter footings to a horizontal distance of at least 6 feet outside the house walls. Type B Lok Those fob listed as Type B lok should follow all the above-listed recommendations with the two following exceptions: 1. The continuous footings may be placed at a minimum depth of 18 inches below the lowest adjacent exterior fInal ground surface mther than the two feet recommended far Type A lok. 2. Single #4 bars placed as directed (above) near taps and battams of all interior and exterior footings may be substituted for the #5 bars recommended for Type A fok. Recommendations 3 to 6, inclusive, as listed for Type A lok, are also applicable to the Type Blots. The resulk of tesk and abservations made ta inspect the compaction of filled ground placed during the major grading of this subdivislon and special recommendations for construction on expansive soils were included in our interim report on this project dated October 12, 1971. This report includes the resulk of test Nos. 1377 to 1380, inclusive, taken in compacted filled ground placed on Lok 92 and 185. These fills were placed on April 24, 1972 and June 13, 1972. This report includes all test data and information not previously reported and completes our final mpart an La Costa Meadows Unit No. 1. The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications am shown on the attached Drawing No. 1, entitled “Location of Compacted Filled Ground.” The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was pm- pared by Rick Engineering Company and last revised January 29, 1971.
