Costa Del Mar Rood Ranch0 La Costa, California 92008 - Subject: Project No. 70-3-10D +b 09- pr8-c t//7/& .9fTte#& --I Final Report on Compacted Filled Ground Lots 411 to‘432, inclusive, Lots 437, 438, 444, 455, Lots 466, 470, 471, 473 Lots 488 to 493, incluri~ve,., Lo Costa South Unit ,yg,. 6.2 ~~~;,#m-&~-&~ry.;l iiirnia County Permit No. L5569 1 Gentlemen: .- - This is to report the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the compaction of filled ground placed on certain areas of Lots 411 to 432, inclusive, Lots 437, 438, 444, 455, 466, 470, 471, 473, 488 to 493, inclusive, La Costa South Unit No. 6, San Diego County, California, more particularly described as a portion of Section 36, T12S, R4W, S.B.B. 8 M. The fills were placed during the period between birch 10 and July 20, 1970. The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications ore shown on the attached Drawing No. 1, entitled “Location of Compacted Filled Ground. ” The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was prepared by Rick Engineering Company of San Diego, California. The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented on pages 4 to 11, inclusive, under the “Table of Test Results. ” The laboratory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials are presented on page 12, under the “Laboratory Test Results. ” Some of the moximum dry densities shown in the “Table of Test Results” were combinations of these. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value of 2000 pounds per square foot for one foot wide cbntinuous footings founded at a minimum depth and placed five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. The safe bearing value of the natural soils suitable for structural support has been determined to be 1560 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings placed at least one foot below the firm undisturbed natural ground surface. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of these slopes, they should be deepened one foot below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to sotlsfactorily support the proposed one story wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements. - *cdW~‘“’ .r-_ ..~,..~...__,,_,_I I investigation conducted at this subdivision, iSProject No. 69-9+-iC> we stated that some “expansive” soils exist~%~?he%e’;;ddif they the upper 3 feet below finished grade some of the lots would require specially designed footings and slabs. We, further stated that these lots would be listed upon the - completion of gmding . The lots 3 feet, are tabulated as follows: - Type A Lots 411, 43 TYP B Lots 413, 415, 423, &, 4&t,.&& 43>, 437,. 443, 445,446 44: 449, 452, 455, 464, 470, 471, 474, 486, 487, 488, 490, 491,492. B 475, 47& 479, &q It is recommended that the following special design precautions be taken for the houses to be constructed on the above-listed lots: Type A Lots 1. Avoid the use of isolated interior piers. Use continuous footings throughout, and place these ot a minimum depth of two feet below the lowest adjacent exterior final ground surface. -- LIENTC,.~, EC,,:;,NEE”,I~,G. Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel bars 011 interior and exterior footings with one 65 bar at 3 inches above the bottom of the footings and one 15 bar placed 1 l/2 inches below the top of the stems of the footings. 3. Exercise every effort to assure that the soil under the foundations andslabs, has a uniform moisture content, 1 percent to 3 percent greater than optimum throughout the top 3 feet below finished grade at the time of placing foundation and slabs. 4. Use raised wood floors that span between continuous footings, or reinforce all concrete slabs with 6 x 6 - lO/lO welded wire fabric and provide o minimum of 4 inches of clean sand beneath all concrete slabs. Provide a moisture barrier 2 inches below slabs under living areas. 5. Separate garage slabs from perimeter footings by l/2 inch thickness of construc- tion felt or equivalent, to allow independent movement of garage slabs relative to perimeter footings. 6. Provlde positive drainage away from all perimeter footings to a horizontal distance of at least 6 feet outside the house walls. Those lots listed on page 2 as Type B lots should follow all the above-listed mcommendations with the two following exceptions: 1. The continuous footings may be placed at a minimum depth of 18 Inches below the lowest adjacent exterior final ground surface rather than the two feet N recommended for Type A lots. 2. Single ‘4 bars placed as directed (above) near tops and bottoms of all interior and exterlor footings may be substituted for the 15 bars recommended for Type A lots.
