(619) 281.9211 Potential Impacts to Vegetation Groups Along La Costa Avenue Five distinct vegetation groups would be subject to potential impacts as a result of future grading operations for the proposed La Costa Avenue widening project. These groups include wetlands vegetation types of brackish marsh, coastal salt marsh and riparian woodland The wetlands vegetation types are considered sensitive and will require mitigation measures. Non-sensitive vegetation groups include coastal sage scrub, coastal mixed chaparral and disturbed. The majority of the project area is comprised of disturbed areas These disturbed areas do not contain habitat that would become wetlands if left alone, therefore, are not considered sensitive habitat Roadway improvements along La Costa Avenue would be completed in two phases Phase I involves improvements at the intersections of La Costa Avenue/1-5 and La Costa Avenue/El Camino Real. Phase I widening would extend approximately 1200 feet east of 1-5 and 1,100 feet west of El Camino Real. Phase II would include the realignment and widening of the remaining portion of La Costa Avenue between the two intersections Table 1 lists the identified vegetation types and approximate acreage (grouped according to phasing areas) subject to potential impacts as a result of the proposed grading operations along La Costa Avenue The accompanying figures show the approximate phasing boundaries and indentified vegetation types subject to poten- tial impacts Table 1 IDENTIFIED VEGETATION TYPES SUBJECT TO POTENTIAL IMPACTS ALONG LACOSTA AVENUE (in acres) Habitat Type Phase I Phase U Interstate 5 .E1 Camino Real Brackish Marsh 0.0 ,- 0.4 1.0 Coastal Salt Marsh :0.2 : 0.4 0.1 Riparian Woodland 0.0 0.1. 0.4 Coastal Sage Scrub 0.0 * 0.0 0.3 Coastal Mixed 0.0 0.0 0.0* Chaparral Disturbed 1 9 0 6 3.7 *Less than 0.1 acre WETLANDS BOUNDARY FHAS E II / HASE .,. \ \k ±\ / ro L91_3M. 0 FEET -.
