SUBJECT: Asphalt Overlay, Proposed Monroe Street Widening, Monroe Street.
and Marron Road, Carlsbad, California.
Gentlemen:
In accordance with your request, vie have determined the asphalt concrete
overlay thickness that will be required to upgrade the existing structural
section on Monroe Street for a traffic index of 8.0. We understand that the
existing structural section consists of 3.0 inches of asphalt concrete
pavement on 6.0 inches of Class II aggregate base. The "R"value of the
subgrade soil, as determined by testing on samples obtain from the edge of
the roadway, was determined to be on the order of 28.
Based on the above parameters, we, calculated that a 4.7 inch overlay of
asphalt concrete would be necessary to upgrade the existing section for a
traffic index of 8.0. The calculations for this analysis are presented
herewith on Plate Number 1. This is equivalent to a section consisting of
4.5 inches of asphalt concrete over 12.5 inches of Class II aggregate base.
