PROJECT DESCRIPTION '
I
The City of Carlsbad Sidewalk Project No 3391-6 consists of adding sidewalk
SB&O, INC improvements and related facilities at several locations throughout the City. •.
I The sidewalk additions for Cannon Road will include street widening from Carlsbad
Boulevard to El Arbol, as well as the installation of storm drain inlets
I The drainage basin for the Cannon Road project consists of an established residential
neighborhood. Drainage patterns are generally, south to north with extremely mild slopes
I
along the intersecting streets
METHODOLOGY
I In accordance with the County of San Diego Flood Control Department's Design and
Procedures Manual, rational method hydrology was used to estimate run-off quantities
I for a 100-year and 50-year design storms Soil characteristics were assumed to be Type
"D" Land use coefficient "C" factors were based upon Appendix I Basin areas were
determined using orth-topographic maps (see Exhibit A) and field reconnaissance
I Rainfall intensities for 100-year frequency events of 6- and 24-hour durations were
estimated from the County of San Diego isopluvial maps (See Appendix II) Adjusted
I 6-hour intensities of 24 inches and 2:3 inches per hour were estimated for the 100- and
50-year events respectively. Times of concentration were calculated using the County of
San Diego nomographs for urban watershed and the gutter and roadway discharge-
velocity chart (See Appendices Ill and IV) Intensities for specific times of concentration
were calculated from the County, of San Diego intensity-duration design chart (See

Appendix V)
Capacity design of inlet structures was determined usmg the County of San Diego curb
inlet capacity chart and formulae (See Appendices VI and VII)
