[_ } 55 x Kam Muri, Dudek Field Notes/Activities/Observations: Dudek biologist Kam Mud conducted a survey for nesting birds along the proposed limits of environmental fencing, from within the quarry, west to Melrose Drive, as staked in the field. The survey was conducted under favorable conditions between 0615-0845 hours under foggy to mostly sunny skies, temperatures between 64 and 68 ° Fahrenheit (F), and light winds of 1-4 miles per hour. All existing habitat areas along the proposed limits of environmental fencing were searched and no nests or indications of nesting activity were observed. Existing upland habitat within the proposed grading area adjacent to the existing trail and downstream of the entrance to the quarry was also searched and no nests or indications of nesting activity were observed. A quick follow-up nesting bird survey of the actual vegetation to be removed will need to be conducted prior to the actual site clearing operations. Today's visit only covered the initiation of fence installation. It should be noted that a subsequent nesting bird survey will also need to be conducted for the areas east of the quarry, in the canyon to the east, once those areas are staked and once construction fencing is slated to be installed in that location. The project is being phased at this point. The installation of construction fencing west of the quarry was beginning today. John Minchin of Dudek was also on site to help verify fence locations and to coordinate with the City and Sierra Pacific West for the start-up of work activities. Dudek was given a copy of the staking plan and was asked to delineate on that map the desired locations for the various fencing treatments, in order to help clarify the intent of the plans. Some field adjustments to the fence locations will be necessary based upon current site conditions and existing vegetation. Dudek will provide this marked-up plan to the City in the next few days for coordination purposes.
