San Diego, California 92120 Indoor Air Sampling Leo Cârrillo Ranch. : . 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Lane . Carlsbad, California 41 Dear Mr. Goldman We are pleased to submit this Indoor Air Sacnpling report for the barn -located at the Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad, California. Rincon was retained by Southern California Soils and Testing to collect and analyze one air sample inside the barn. Penofin (wood stain) had been applied to the barn's interior surfaces. The Material Safety Data Sheet for Penofin indicated that Penofin consists of the following hazardous chemicals: xylene, ethylbenzene, and 142 solvent (petroleum distillate). The purpose of the 'indoor air sampling was to -. determine if these chemicals could be'detected inside the barn. Methodo logy On August 17, 2011, Riricon collected- 6n air sample from inside the barn. The air sample was collected approximately. 5 feet above the floor near the eastern corner of the barn. A plastic syringe was used to collect air from within the barn and inject it into a Tedlar bag gas sampling container. A photoionization detector (PID) was ued to screen for volatile organic - • -' compounds (VOCs) inside the barn Following sampl collection, the'air sample was transportedto H&P Mobile Geochemistry, Inc. in Carlsbad, California. The air sample was analyzed for • - VOCs by Environnieñtal Protection Agency (EPA) method 8260B. -• • -• S • Environmental Scientists Planners, Engineers r Results The results from the laboratory analyses are summarized in Table 1 and are included in Appendix 1. VOCs The PID did not detect any VOCs within the barn. EPA analysis method 8260.B analyzes 61 individual VOCs. There were no VOCs detected above their respective laboratory detection-limits. Furthermore, we specifically looked at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) for xylene and ethylbenzene. PELs are established limits for concentrations of regulated chemicals in the air and are based on an 8-hour time weighted average exposure. The PELs for xylene and ethylbenzene were not exceeded in the air sample analyzed. Based on the sample analysis performed, we did not detect any chemical in the air sample that indicates a health risk concern. - Limitations This report has been prepared for and is intended for the exclusive use of Southern California Soils and Testing. The contents of this report should not be relied upon by any other party without the written consent of Rincon Consultants, Inc. Our conclusions are based on the results of a limited air sampling assessment. The results of this evaluation are qualified by the fact that only limited sampling, and analysis was conducted during this assessment. This scope was not intended to completely establish the quantities and distribution of contaminants present in the barn or to determine the cost to remediate the barn. The concentrations of contaminants measured at any given location may not be representative of conditions at other locations. Further, conditions may change at any particular location as a function of time in response to natural conditions, chemical reactions, and other events. Conclusions regarding the condition of the barn do not represent a warranty that all areas within the barn are similar to those sampled. - Environmental Scientists - Planners Engineers rindoor Air Sampling Leo Carrillo Ranch 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Lane, Carlsbad, California References - Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
