Gentlemen:
At your recjuest, we have made field density tests in the subrade on
the subject site on April 5 and 12, 1960.
A disturbed sample, representative of the fill' material used, was com
pacted in the laboratory to establish the maximum density to which it is
possible to com?act the soil in the field with the proper compactive effort.
The laboratory compaction test was performed in accordance with the test
m.thod designated A.A.S.H.O. T99-49 Modified (1/30 cu.ft. mold, 10 pound
hammer, 18-inch drop, 5 1ayers,'25 blows each layer). The re,s;1ts of the
laboratory compaction test and classification of the material by the Unified
Soil Classification System areas follows:

Relative compaction is the ratio of the field density to the maximum
laboratory density '(expressed as a percentage) for the comparable material.
