A LEIGHTON GROUP COMPANY April 14, 2005 Project No. 971009-017 To: Lennar Communities 1525 Faraday Avenue, Suite 300 Carlsbad, California 92008 Attention: Mr. Sean Scholey Subject: Confirmation of Previously Performed R-Value Test Result and Pavement Section Design Recommendation, RV Parking Facility, Planning Area PA- 13, Bressi Ranch, Carlsbad, California Reference: Pavement Section Design Recommendations for the RV Parking Facility, Planning Area PA-13, Bressi Ranch, Carlsbad, California, Project No. 971009-017, dated January 6, 2005 In accordance with the request of the City of Carlsbad, this letter presents our supplemental R- Value testing that indicates the previously recommended pavement section for the RV parking facility (Leighton, 2005) is still applicable and additional recommendations are not warranted. R- value testing for the parking facility and entry road was previously performed at approximate Station No. 2+15 of the entry road. The results of the R-value testing and pavement section design recommendations were provided in our letter dated January 6, 2005 (Leighton, 2005). The recommended pavement section presented in the letter was 4 inches of asphalt concrete over 13 inches of aggregate base material Due to the storm drain trench excavation and backfill that was performed at approximate Station 1+25 of the entry road (subsequent to our pavement section letter), an additional R-Value was performed of the trench backfill soils at finish grade of the roadway. The test result indicates the subgrade soils have an R-value of 16 (as indicated in Appendix A). Since the previously recommended pavement section for the RV parking facility and entry road assumed an R-Value of 9 and the supplemental R-Value was determined to be a 16, it is our professional opinion that the recommended pavement section is still applicable and should be followed. 3934 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite B205 • San Diego, CA 92123-4425 858.292.8030 • Fax 858.292.0771 • www.leightongeo.com 971009-017 If you have any questions regarding our letter, please contact this office.
