A LEIGHTON GROUP COMPANY May 3, 2004 Project No. 971009-018 To: Lennar Communities 1525 Faraday Avenue, Suite 300 Carlsbad, California 92008 Attention: Ms. Kristine Zortman Subject: Results of Laboratory Tests on Import Class 2 Aggregate Base Samples Placed on April 24, 2004 for the Bressi Ranch Planning Area PA-10, a Portion of Alverton Drive and Lismore Place, Bressi Ranch, Carlsbad, California References: Caltrans, 1992, Standard Specifications, July 1992 Carlsbad, City of, 1996, Standards for Design and Construction of Public Works Improvements in the City of Carlsbad, California, Project No. 05332-12-01, dated April 20, .1993, revised December 10, 1996 In accordance with the requirements of the City of Carlsbad, we have performed laboratory tests on representative samples of the import Class 2 Aggregate Base (AB) material placed on April 24, 2004 as part of the pavement section for a portion of Alverton Drive and Lismore Place within Bressi Ranch Planning Area PA-10 located in Carlsbad, California. Two representative samples of the Class 2 AB were sampled and transported to our laboratory. Laboratory tests performed on the representative samples included sand equivalent (in accordance with ASTM Test Method D2419) and sieve analysis (in accordance with ASTM Test Method C136). The results of the laboratory tests are presented on Tables 1 through 3. Based on the City of Carlsbad requirements and the Caltrans specifications (Section 26-1.02A) as indicated on the tables, the representative Class 2 aggregate base samples generally met the city requirements. However, the sample on Lismore Place at Station No. 2+00 was slightly out of specification with respect to the percent passing the No. 4, No. 30, and No. 200 sieves (i.e. all three values were 1- to 2-percent over the maximum value).
