Grading' Plans for Redeemer-By-The-Sea, Lutheran Church of 'Carlsbad; by Sowers and Brown Engineering, Inc.,11 sheets, project no CT 00-22, stamp date September 26,2002 (Sheet 3) Dear Mr. Voertman: In conformance with the request from Roel Construction Company, we have prepared this interim letter report addressing only the Sanctuary building pad area of the project site (see Figure 1) A final as geotechnical compaction report for the rest and entire project site cannot be processed until the relocation of the pre-existing on-site water lines is completed and the earthwork along the, approximate 20 foot wide 'easement area is also completed. We understand the City of Carlsbad is in the process Of completing necessary plans and other procedures for the relocation of the pre-existing on-site water lines The Sanctuary building pad area is not underlain by nor is it located immediately adjacent to the 20 foot wide easement. 3 .0 6. 0 INDUSTRY: ST 'SUITE 105 - - S '• - - - OCEANSIDE' . , - CA 92054 ' ' - - •- 'S -TEL 760.721.5488' - •- - S - FAX: 760.721.5539 5 ' - I 1. The primary building pad is underlain directly by the Linda Vista sedimentary formation consisting of dense, reddish brown, slightly cemented, silty sandstone. There is 'a thin wedge of fill soils at the northeast corner of the building pad. The total thickness of the fill at the northeast corner is estimated 'to be about 3 +1- feet. The fill consists of compacted, reddish brown, silty sand derived from the Linda Vista Formation. The proposed building foundations will be founded directly into the sandstone of the Linda Vista sandstone, except for that local fill. area of the northeast corner. The planned 'building foundations for that local limited: area should be deepened, if and as necessary, to be founded directly. into the sandstone of the Linda Vista sandstone. The base of foundation excavations will need to be observed to verify adequate embedment by an engineering geologist with written geotechnical approval prior to the placement of steel and/or concrete. The lower slab on grade at the northeast building corner should be reinforced at the cut/fill transition in conformance with the requirements of the structural engineer. Observation and testing of' back fill operations during construction of the Sanctuary foundation and building will be required. The Sanctuary building pad 'area is approved from a geotechnical perspective for the proposed construction. This letter applies only to that area depicted on the attached Figure 1. The structural fill soils for the project have been tested with several tests within the fills adjacent to the eastern side of the, building. The fills observed to date are tested structural fills. One of the tests (number 143) is -within the envelope of the Sanctuary Pad' as shown on Figure 1. The approximate location of the test is shown on Figure. 1. The summary of the field test data is shown on Figure 2. The summary of the maximum density test used for evaluation of test number 143 is shown on Figure 3.
