Barratt American 5950 Priestly Drive Carlsbad, California 92008 Attention: Ms. Janice Patterson Subject: Geotechnical Completion Letter of the Post Grading Operations, Lots 1 Through 25, Planning Area PA- 11, Bressi Ranch, Carlsbad, California In accordance with the request and authorization of representatives of Barratt American, Leighton and Associates (Leighton) has performed geotechnical observation and testing services during retaining wall construction and backfill compaction operations on Lots 8 and 10 of Planning Area PA-il of the Bressi Ranch project (Carlsbad Tract No. 00-06) located in Carlsbad, California. As of the date of this letter, the retaining wall construction operations are essentially complete. The results of our geotechnical observations and testing services will be presented in the final post grading report for the project upon completion of the post grading operations. However, this letter summarizes our geotechnical services during the retaining wall construction and backfill compaction operations. The geotechnical conditions encountered during the retaining wall construction operations were generally as anticipated. Prior to the placement of the retaining wall footing, the footing excavation was observed by a representative of Leighton and found to be in conformance with the project geotechnical recommendations. After the retaining wall was built, we observed the retaining wall backdrain and also found to be in conformance with the project geotechnical recommendations. The placement and compaction of the retaining wall backfill was geotechnically observed and documented. Field density testing indicated that the retaining wall backfill soils were placed and compacted to at least a 90 percent relative compaction (based on American Standards of Testing and Materials [ASTM] Test Method D1557) and near-optimum moisture content in accordance with the recommendations of. Leighton and Associates and the requirements of the City of Carlsbad. It is our professional opinion that the subject lots are suitable for the intended residential use provided the recommendations included in the project geotechnical reports are incorporated into the design and construction of the residential structures and associated improvements.
