Dear Mr. Bohne:
In accordance with your request and in conjunction with the City of Carlsbad requirements,
MTGJJ Inc. is providing this pavement recommendation.
Based upon a subgrade R-value of 60 and a Traffic Index of 5, and in accordance withthe
City of Carlsbad Supplemental Standard No. GS-17, the minimum structural pavement
section shall be 4" Asphalt Concrete and 4" Aggregate Base.
The upper 12 inches of subgrade shall be compacted to a minimum' of 95 percent relative
compaction based on ASTM D1557. Base material shall conform to the requirements of
Section 200-2 of the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (SSPWC) and
compacted to a minimum relative compaction of 95 percent per Test Method ASTM D1557.
Asphalt concrete shall be dense, hot-laid, hot mix asphalt plant mixes with a history of
satisfactory performance in geographical area where project is located and approved by
authorities having jurisdiction. Hot-mix asphalt paving materials, workrrianship and other
requirements shall be in accordance with the City of Carlsbad (GS-17) and the SSPWC.
