We understand that the curb is located a minimum of approximately 3 feet beyond the top-of-slope and that the slope ranges from approximately 15 to 30 feet in height. The curb, due it's proximity to the top-of-slope, will be located within the slope creep zone. In order to minimize the impacts of the potential slope creep, setback recommendations from the face of descending slopes were made in the project geotechnical report (Leighton, 2007) to minimize (but not eliminate) adverse effects to improvements at the top of slopes. In order to minimize the impacts of slope creep of the driveway and the curb, we recommend that the curb be constructed with a deepened footing. Based on the proposed distance from the top-of-slope to the curb, we recommend that a footing, ranging from approximately 2.5 to 5 feet 3934 Murphy Canyon Road, Suite B205 • San Diego, CA 921234425 858.292.8030 • Fax 858.292.0771 • www.leightongeo.com - _.I4•__ - .t, - 971O09O51. in depth (as measured from the bottom, of the curb) be constructed. Figure 1 presents the recommended location of the deepened footing along with the recommended depths. We also recommend that the footing be reinforced with two No.4 rebars top and bottom and that the two horizontal rebar layers be tied together. The top and bottom rebars should have a maximum separation of 30 inches. A copy of the deepened footing detail prepared by the project architect is attached. -'-- If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact this office We appreciate this opportunity to be of service o Respectfully submitted, 0 No 1 12 4 LEIGHTON AND ASSOCIATES, INC ENGINMRING OFC LU Randall K.
