Governing Building Code: California Building Code 2016 Soil Design Parameters: Per the email from John Goddard Dated Friday, May 26, 2017 2:50 PM the active soil pressures for level backfill was taken as 40H psf. Active earth pressure for retained soil at 2:1 slope was taken as 55H psf. Per the soils report by GEOCON, Inc. dated April 24, 2017, the equivalent fluid force for seismic loading will be taken as 21 H psf distributed along the height of the retained soil starting at O psf at the top of the wall. A passive earth pressure equivalent to 300 pcf will be used. The upper 12 inches of material not protected by floor slabs or pavement is not included in the design for lateral resistance. In general, wall foundations having a minimum depth of 24 inches and width of 12 inches were designed for an allowable soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf. The allowable soil bearing pressure was increased by 300 psf and 500 psf for each additional foot of foundation width and depth, respectively, up to a maximum allowable soil bearing pressure of 4,000 psf. Design loading for a 3 ft high fence at the top of wall was considered where required. It was assumed that the fence weighs 50 plf and resists a wind load of 30 psf across the entire height of the fence.
