CALIF. 92025 EBCONDIDO -746-2333 - - Pacific Scene, Inc. 2032 Garnet Avenue San Diego, California 92109 Re: Job No. 71-105 Carlsbad Tract 72-2, Unit 2 Carlsbad, California Subject: Final Clearance Report on Soil Conditions Gentlemen: This report is to cover the results of our tests and observations concerning the site clearing and compaction of filled ground placed on the above referenced project as show on the enclosed Site Plan. - The filled ground for Carlsbad Tract 72-2, Unit 2 ulas - placed between the dates of December 11, 1972 and April 10, 1973. - The preparation of the natural ground and placing of compacted filled ground was done in accordance with the approved recommenda- tions and specifications contained in our Preliminary Soil Investi- gation Report for this project dated January 26, 1972. Please note this project was previously called ttCampobello Planned Community” and was subsequently entitled Carlsbad Tract 72-2. All loose or saturated soils in the areas to be filled were ex- cavated and recompacted or were compacted in place as directed by our field representative. Potentially expansive soils encountered during grading were excavated and placed in deeper portions of the fill. All lots are covered with at least 2 feet of nonexpansive soil. - Carlsbad. - The laboratory compaction test procedures and results of the ‘1 - - _- - - - Two field dE .ity tests were taken in i J drainage StrUCtUrS backfill located south of Lots 287 and 296. The approximate fill area tested, areas undercut due to saturated material and expansive soil, and location of field density tests are shown on the enclosed Site Plan. The Site Plan has been redrawn from the approved Grading Plan by Rick Engineers, soils encountered during the grading are shown on page 3. The field density test methods are also presented on page 3. Field density test locations and results taken during the fill control are presented on pages 4 thru 10. Field density tests indicate all filled ground has been placed to at least 90% of the optimum dry density. Footings placed less than five feet inside the top of the slopes should be deepened one foot below a 13 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of the slopes. Ule understand Lot 337 is to be used for a park or green area. However, if any structures are to be placed in this area additional testing and recommendations for expansive soil will be required - prior to construction. INO. - DENSITY DATA 1 - Laboratory Compaction Tests - Laboratory compaction tests were performed on the fill mater- ial to determine the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content as specified by ASTM D 1557-64T (method A). The test uses the minus _- #4 sieve soil in a 4 inch diameter 4 inch high cylinderical mold. The sample is formed with a IO pound hammer falling 18 inches for - 25 blows on each of 5 layers. The tests were performed according to ASTM D1556-64, the sand cone method.
