T£:LEPHONE (714,) 565·1955 This is to report the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the compaction of filled ground placed to date on certain areas of the Tri<ity Auto Plaza and on the right half of Plaza Del Norte between Tri-City Auto Plaza dnd Palomar Airport Road in Carlsbad" California. The fills were placed during the period between october 10, 1972 and February 7, J973. The grading plans used for the placement of filled ground were prepared by Associated Engineers. , The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented on pages 3 to 9, inclusive, under the ''Table of Test Results. II The laboratory determinations of 'the maximum dry densities and optimum moist,ure contents of the major fill materials are presented on page 10, under the IlLaboratory Test Results. Compacting of filled ground has not been completed in the following areas: 1. The upper two feet below existing grade on certain portions of lots 1, 2, and 3. 2. Approximately 1.5 feet of fill in a 50 feet wide strip at the rear of Lots 8 and 9. Except in the aboye described areas and areas where loose soils have been stockpiled In mounds, the final results of tests and observations indicate thQt the compacted fi lied ground placed on the remaining portions or the site has been placed at 90 percent of the maximllm dry density or greater. rootings placed on filled ground, uniformly compacted to at least 90 percent of maximum dry density, may be designed in accordance with the recommendations pre~ented in our reports on Project No. 7.2-8-21A, doted September 8, 1972 and October 16,1972. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted. fiI led ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 1/2 horizontal to 1 vertlc;:al line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. A plan showing the approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications will be submitted with our final report on this project.
