Unsuitable materials were removed from site and the site watered. Keys were excavated at areas of toe of embankment slopes as per recom- mendation of soils investigation report for said lot. Fill soils were watered and brought to optimum moisture content and compacted to at least 90% relative density per ASTM DI557-78. Horizontal benches were cut into the firm undisturbed natural ground in order to provide both horizontal and vertical stability of the manufactured fill on the slopes. The prevailing soils at site consist of brown to reddish brown silty to sandy clay with shale rock fragments.. The soils appear to be of medium potential-expansion. The results of the field compaction tests and the location sketch of the tests taken are shown enclosed as Appendix A. - Conclusion and Recommendations 1. It is our opinion that the graded soils are stable and should be satisfactory for the purpose intended. - 2. Structure can be founded with standard spread footings at an allowable ENGINEERING DEPT. Bottom of footings should be at least 24 inches below adjacent finish grade. Wall footings should be at least 18 inches wide and continuously reinforced with 2 - #4 bars placed top and bottom of the footing. Slabs on grade should be at least 4" thick and reinforced with 6 x 6 lO/lO welded wire mesh placed at mid-thickness of slab. Slab should be underlain by 4" sand and vapor barrier. Prior to placing sand and vapor barrier over the slab subgrade, the subgrade soils should be wetted to at least 4% above optimum moisture content. Recommend placement of #4 bars 4 feet long spaced at 48" on center in the slab along the transition line of cut and fill.
