CALIFORNIA er,,, September 23, 1977 Warmington Development, Inc. 1641 Langley Avenue Irvine, California 92714 Subject: Project No. 77-8-1D Repat on Compacted Filled Grcund Building Nos. 21 to 24., inclusive (-ke&gs~~’ Carlsbad, Califunia Gentlemen: This is to report the results of tests and observations made to inspect the compaction of filled ground placed on the areas for Building Nos. 21 to 24, inclusive, of the subject tract in Carl&d, California. Ccsnpacted filled ground has previously been placed on certain areas of this development during the initial site grading .fcr La Costa Vale Unit No. 3. The results of tests taken during this previous grading period were presented in our repat on Project No. 74-5-2D, dated February 4, 1977. The recent grading was conducted during the period between August 5 and September 13, 1977. The fill ground was placed in accordance with the approved specifications. The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was prepared by Rick Engineering Company. The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final results of all tests taken on the project up to September 13, 1977 are presented on pages T-l to T-6, inclusive, under the “Table of Test Results.” The labcratay determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials are presented on page L-l, under the “Laboratory Test Results. ” Sane of the maximum dry densities shown in the “Table of Test Results” were combinations of these. The tests were taken during the weekly periods indicated below: Test Number 1, 2 and 3 4 to 35, inclusive 36 to 50, inclusive 51 to 76, inclusive 77 to 119, inclusive 120 to 157, inclusive 158 to 170, inclusive - - - - -~ - - - - - ,- - Project No. 77-B-1D Warmington Development, Inc. -2- September 23, 1977 Expansive sail conditions exist in the upper three feet below finished grade on Lots 21 to 24, inclusive. It is understood that a post-tensioned slab foundation system, specially designed to minimize possible detrimental effects due to the expansive soil conditions, will be used fu support of the proposed buildings. ’ The final results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, are adequate to satisfactorily support the proposed buildings. If buildings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes, the perimeter footing should be deepened one foot below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet haizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. A plan showing the approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications will be .submitted with our final repat on this project.
