Compacted filled ground has previously been placed on certain areas of this development during the initial site grading fw La Costa Vale Unit No. 3. The results of tests taken during this previous grading period were presented in our repcxt on Project No. 74-52D, dated February 4, 1977. The recent grading was conducted during the period between August 5 and October 11, 1977. The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications are shown on the attached Drawing Nos. 1 and 2, entitled “Location of Ccmpacted Filled Ground. ‘I The grading plan used fa the placement of filled ground was prepared by Rick Engineering Ccqxmy. The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented on pages T-l to T-9, inclusive, under the “Table of Test Results.” The laboratory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the maja fill materials are presented on page L-l, under the “Labaatory Test Results. ” Some of the maximum dry densities shown in the “Table of Test Results” were combinations of these. It has been determined that the fill materials, canpacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value of 1,800 pounds per square foot fu one foot wide continuous footings founded at the minimum required depth and placed five feet OT more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of cunpacted filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the compacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily support the proposed one or two stay wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements. Expansive soil conditions exist in the upper three feet below finished grade in certain areas. The classification of the building areas with respect to expansive soil conditions is presented as follows: Building Number Classification 1 to 72, inclusive Expansive 73 to 104, inclusive Nonexpansive. 105 to 151, inclusive Expansive It is understood that a post-tensioned slab foundation system specially designed to minimize possible detrimental effects due to the potentially expansive soil conditions, will be used for foundation support on those building areas having expansive soil conditions in the upper three feet below finished grade.
