The fills were placed during the period between October 10, 1972 and February 7,1973. The grading plans used for the placement of filled ground were prepared by Associated Engineers. The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented on pages 3 ta 9, inclusive, under the ‘Table of Test Results. ” The laboratory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials ore presented on page 10, under the “laboratory Test Results. ” Some of the maximum dry densities shown in the ‘7oble of Test Results” were combinations of these. Compacting of filled ground has not been completed in the following areas: 1. The upper two feet below existing grade on certain portions of Lots 1, 2, and 3. 2. Approximately 1.5 feet of fill in a 50 feet wide strip at the rear of lob8and9. Except in the above described areas and areas where loose soils have been stockpiled in mounds, the final results of tests and observations Indicate that the compacted fllled ground placed on the remaining portions of the site has been placed at 98 percent of the mmrimum dry density or greater. Footings placed on filled ground, uniformly compacted to at least 90 percent of mcmimum dry density, may be designed In accordance with the recommendations presented in our reports on Project No. 72+21A, doted September 8, 1972 and October 16, 1972. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slepes than 5 lest inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horlrontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. A plan showing the approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection In accordance with the approved specifications will be submitted with our final report on this prolect. The fills were placed during the period between October 10, 1972 and March 19, 1973. The approximate areas ond depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications are shown on the attached Drawing No. 1, entitled “Loca- tion of Compacted Filled Ground.” The grading plon used for the placement of filled ground was prepared by Associated Engineers. The final results of Test Ph. 1 to 270, inclusive, were presented in our report dated March 12, 1972. The results of tests takan during the final site grading, Numbers 271 to 277, inclusive, taken on March 19, 1973, are presented on the attached page 9 of the “Table of Test Resulk,” revised March 23, 1973. The approximate locations at which the tesk were taken on the Tri-City Auto Plaza site are shown on Drawing No. 1. Tests taken on Plaza Del Norte, south of Tri-City Auto Plaza, are located according to street stationing. The labora- tory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials are presented on page 10 under the “Laboratory Test Resulk.” Some of the maxi- mum dry densities shown in the “Table of Test Results” were combinations of these. Existing loose or very moist to saturated soils were removed as required at certain locations in order to place the compacted filled ground on natuml soils suitoble for support of the proposed structures and/or filled ground. It should be noted that some loose soils have been stockpiled in mounds above the original ground surface on portions of Lots 6 and 7. - - - - - - - Project No. 72-1 O-3D Tri-City Auto Plaza Carlsbad, California -2- April4, 1973 The final results of tests and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground within the approved shaded areas shown on Drawing No. 1 has been placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. Footings placed on filled ground, uniformly compacted to at least 90 percent of maximum dry density, may be designed in accordance with the recom- mendations presented in our reports on Prefect No. 72-8-21A, dated September 8, 1972 and October 16, 1972. If footings clre placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes, these should be deepened one foot below o 1 l/2 hori- zontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from CI point 5 feet horizontally in- side the top of compacted filled ground slopes.
