AN D TESTIN G SERVICES 16-INCH HIGH PRESSURE WATER~MAIN PALOMAR AIRPORT ROAD CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA This letter summarizes our earthwork observation and testing services i.n connection with .. grading for a section of 16-inch .high pressure water main loc~ted outside the. CC&F Palomar Airport Business Park 'Subdivision bot,lndary on Palomar Airport Road in Carrsbad, ·Califomi·a. The section of 01 ignment under consideration is located between Stations 197+40 and200+eO. In order to provide a uniform thickness of cover· for the pipe it was necessary to .bring this· section of alignment to grade by placing up to 4 feet of compacted fill. In addition, because of the presence of soft, saturated subgrade soils encountered in the fiJ I area between Stations· 200+00 and 200+80 it was found necessary to overexcavate these materials dciwn to firm natural soils (approximately 2 to 3 feet deep) prior to placing fill. The width of fill placed in thi.s section of the alignment was between 10 and 15 feet. Earthwork operations were performed during the period of May 6 through 13,. 1975. During this· period We w·ere present at the site on a part-time basis to observe the operations and to perform field density tests as required. The results of the density tests and a labo·ratory compactio.n curve are presented in the attached Tables A and B. Based on the results of our observations and fi,eld density tests r if is our opinion that the earth- work was performed in accordance with our recommendations.
