Our field soil' technician obtained field density tests in the compacted base materials requested by the Construction Inspector with the City of Carlsbad. The field density tests were obtained in accordance with A.S.T.M. Test Hethod D 1556. Moisture determinations were made from each in-place field density test. The density tests shown in this report are a complete summary of tests obtained on Augu~t 7, 1980. A laboratory compaction test was performed on the typical base materials. The compaction test was performed in accordance with lLS.T.M. Test Method D 1557 (four inch diameter mold, five layers, 25 blows each layer, 10 pound hammer, 18 inch drop, using all material passing a No. 4 sieve). The laboratory compaction test represents the theoretical value to which it is possible to compact the soil in the field with the proper compactive effort. The relative compaction as summarized on Figure No. I is the ratio of the field density to the maximum laboratory density expressed as a percentage for the comparable material. Our test results indicate that the base materials were properly placed and compacted to at least 95 percent of maximum dry density. This opportunity to be of service is sincerely appreciated.
