Supervision w"!-s provided during this period. ,Prior to ,the placement of fill soils, all vegetation and debris was removed from the site. The exi.sting loose surficial soils were excavated to competent material. The exposed surface was scarified, moisture conditioned and recompacted to ninety (90%) percent of the Laboratory Standard. • The fill soils were placed in six (6") inch lifts, moisture conditioned and compacted in a li~e manner. Keys were constructed at the toe of the fill slope to provide support • for the fill; in accordance with our recommendations. Sub-drains were installed also .in accordance with our recommendations. • •••• The relative compaction percent',was determined by the, Sand Cone Method, (AST}1:D-1556-70) and the Nuclear Method {ASTM:D-2922-7) . The-se.,tests were taken a'minimum of every 500 cubic yards placed and every two .(2') feet in depth of 'fill placed., .. Compaction was 9btained by Cat '637 Scrapers, Cat .825, 'Blade Doze~, . Steel Roller.'and Sheepsfoot. Reinforcing hars shall extend a minimum of ten (10') feet on either side of transition line. Footings placed on or adjacent to slopes shall have a minimum horizontal distance of five (5').feet from 'the edge of the footings to the face of the slope. Footings should not be poured until authorization to do so has been obtained from the·Building Inspector .. Excavations may be made and forms set before approval of fue report at the OWner I s risk. Inspections during the course of grading were performed, on all intermittent basis, at the specific requests of Action Geotechnical personnel. Such inspections covered the period from August 8, 1983 through February 20, 1984. Our work on this project consisted of; mapping and noting the pertinent geologic features whene~posed, observing certain alluvial clean-outs and certain keyways, performing consul tations regarding buttress design recommenda'tions, noting adverse features when encountered (and transmitting these findings to Action Geotechnical personnel, either in person or by telephone), together with preliminary recommendations to mitigate adverse features when requested . • • • Project No. 1109-083 Action/Mala -2- Specific, notable changes from the grading plans, to which the writer has knowledge, included the following: 1. Installation of a buttress fill, constructed of soil cement, on the east facing slope of Lot Nos. 128, 129 and 130. 2. Construction of a stabilizing filIon the north facing slopes • of Lot Nos. 120 through 127. 3. lnstallation of a buttress fill, constructed of soil cement, on the east facing slope of Lot Nos. 100 through 109. • 4. Installation of a slope subdrain at the northeast slope corner of Lot No. 110. 5. The raising of the pad grades on Lot Nos. 133 through 139. • 6. The removal of clay seam outcrops at the toe of slopes on Lot Nos. 20, 21, 119 and 130. 7. The cleanout of alluvium and debris from two of three retention • basins within Tamarak Avenu~, near its intersection with East Pointe Avenue. At the time of the last inspectio~, February 20, 1984, the lowermost debris basi~) immediately south of • Lot 34 had not as yet been cleaned out. 8. Moisture seepage on the south facing slope of Lot No. 9~, near the interface of the Terrace deposits and the Tertiary sediment~, • was still taking place at the time of the last inspection (February 20, 1984). Potential erosion undermining was noted just beyond the -3- paved swale at the northeast corner of Lot No. 97. Headward erosion of a small, offsite gully could effect this paved swale. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Based on our inspections, it is our opinion that the subject tract has been graded in substantial accordance with the engineering geologic recommendations, as presented in the report of July 6, 1983. Item Nos. 7, 8 and 9, previously mentioned, should be addressed by the soils engineer, contractor and engineering geologist prior to fine grading.
