CAL1FORNIA *2lll December 5. 1977 T.L..“OYI 1-I,., L56,-1SSS Subiect: Gentlemen: Project No. 77-I-5D Final Report on Compacted Filled Ground Canon Park Unit Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Carlsbad Tract No. /6-l/ La,&&-- nue and Cadencia Street Carlshad, California This is to report the results of tests and observations made in order to inspect the compaction of filled ground placed on certain areas of Canon Pork Unit Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in Cartsbad, California. The fills were placed during the period between February 24 and July 27, 1977. The approximate areas and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance with the approved specifications are shown on the attached Drawing NOS. 1, 2 and 3, each entitled “Location of Compacted Filled Ground.” The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground, dated May 16, 1977, was prepared by Rick Engineering Ccmpany. The approximate locations at which the tests were taken and the final test results are presented on pages 3 to 12, inclusive, under the “Table of Test Results.” The laboratory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contents of the major fill materials are presented on pages 12 and 13, under the “Laboratory Test Results.” Some of the maximum dry densities shown in the “Table of Test Results” were combinations of these. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, have a safe bearing value of at least 1000 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a depth of 8 inches below the lowest adjacent final canpacted ground surface and placed five feet or more inside the top of ccmpacted filled ground slopes. If footings are placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes, these shauld be deepened one foot below a 1 l/2 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. Tests indicate that the cunpacted filled ground is adequate to satisfactorily suppat the proposed one and two story wood frame dwellings without detrimental settlements. Expansive soil conditions exist in the upper three feet below finished grade on all lots in these three units. It is understood that the post-tension slab system, to be used for support of these houses, has been designed to minimize possible detrimental effects caused by the potentially expansive soil conditions.
