STUDY CONSIDERATIONS HYDROLOGY STUDY: DISCUSSION Pipe sizes are determined by using 90 percent of the natural gradient· of the land as approximating the friction slope and assuming non-pressure pipe flow. Each confluence point was evaluated as to· that combination of downstream hydrology occurrences to generate a maximum runoff peak. Consequently, a lower Ittime of concentration" is used in this section of watershed. Sections III and IV of this study includes the detailed computer analysis for the IO-year frequency and two-year frequency storms respectively. HYDROLOGY ANALYSIS: DISCUSSION The program utilized for this study specializes in pressure flow pipe systems where energy losses are determined per LACFCD and OCEMA standard emperical relations. The pipe system is schematically represented by a sequence of nodal points. Each point represents a specific head loss or junction feature, and is notated by a hydraulic station for reference to the computer output. Wherever the pipe unseals, the pressure-flow assumption fails. Accordingly, the next hydraulic station assumes "soffit contror' for the hydraulic grade line (HGL). Both the energy grade line (EGL) and the HGL are included with the provided computer results. All calculations are presented as required for review of the analysis. San Diego County Regional standards are utilized within the model. Hydrology maps' are available which show the nodal point designation scheme, subareas, and other pertinent information. The nodal point designation for hydraulic ana~ysis is shown in Fig. 1. INTRODUCTION PROJECT LOCATION The, development is a commercial development west of 1-5 and south of Cannon Road consisting of approximately 22.7 acres, l,?cated in the City of Carlsbad. This development also includes the completion of the link between Cannon Road and the eXisting northerly end of Avenida Encinas STUDY OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to develop a computer model of the entire watershed study area in order to evaluate hydrologic responses to storm events. The basis of the model is the Orange County Environmental Management Agency (OGEMA) 1973 Hydrology Manual outline of the "Rational Methodtl, modified to include County of San Diego rainfall intensity/duration information. Included in this primary objective is the ,d~te~mination of peak discharges in cubic feet per second (cfs) at various points, of concentration within the study area. Additionally, pipe size estimates are determined and evaluated for economy and effectiveness of flood control. The watershed is studied with respect to the ten year storm event 'as presented in the San Diego County 1975 hydrology manual. It is the further objective of this study to design the storm drain improvements, based on the data obtained from the hydrology study.
