Subject: Pavement section design alternatives, interior streets, Phase 2,
C.T. 83-16, Carlsbad, California.
Gentlemen:
Pursuant to your request, this firm has completed the field sampling and labora-
tory testing for pavement design of the interior streets within Phase 2 of the
subject tract.. Testing was performed in accordance with California Test Method
301. Test results indicate R-values ranging from 11 to 49.
In consideration of the R-values, and given traffic indices (T.I.'s) of 4.5, 6.0,
and 8.0, pavement section design alternatives have been included in the attached
Pavement Section Summary. Substantiating calculations also accompany this
report. .
Prior to placing disintegrated granite, aggregate base, or asphaltic concrete
pavement onsite, the exposed subgrade surface should be scarified, moisture-
conditioned, and thoroughly recompacted. Isolated overexcavatioris may also be
required, as field conditions dictate,in order to eliminate any dry, wet,
loose, or soft areas that may exist at the time of suhqrade preparation.
