COMPACTION TEST RESULTS, UPPER RETAINING WALL PARKING AREA
BACKFILL, PROPOSED RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT LOCATED OFF HILLSIDE
DRIVE, CITY OF CARLSBAD DRAWING #411-8A
Pursuant to your authorization, and in accordance with the Grading Ordinance for the City
of Carlsbad, a compaction report for the backfill of the subject retaining wall has been
prepared forthe above referenced site. We have completed engineering observation and
testing services in conjunction with the backfill operations. This report summarizes the
results of our tests and observations of the compacled wall backfill conducted on May 5,
2004. Actual dates are shown on the enclosed compaction test result sheet.
A laboratory compaction test for each soil type was performed to determine the maximum
dry density and optimum moisture in accordance with ASTM D-1557-91.
Field density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D-1556-90 sand-cone
method as the backfill was placed. Moisture content was determined for each density
sample. The results of these tests are shown on the enclosed compaction test result sheet
The locations ofthe tests were so placed to provide the best possible coverage. The test
locations and final test results are summarized on the compaction test result table. The
results of our field density tests and laboratory testing indicate that the retaining wall
backfill at the areas tested were compacted to at least 90% ofthe maximum dry density
at the tested locations.
Our description ofthe backfill operations, as well as obsen/ations and testing services
herein, have been limited to those backfill operations performed on May 5, 2004.
