Dear Ms. Thompson:
Planning Systems biologists have completed a raptor survey for the subject property and adjacent
wooded areas out to a distance of five hundred feet from the exterior property line of the project.
This survey is intended to determine whether raptors are nesting within th
SURVEY RESULTS: Two species of raptors were observed in the survey area; a red-
shouldered hawk and an American kestrel. The presence of a third species, a barn owl, was
inferred from the presence of an owl pellet. The table below summarizes the surv
Nests from previous years were observed in two eucalyptus trees, located 40 feet and 800 feet
(outside of the survey area) from the property line respectively. The nest within the survey area
was observed extensively for evidence of occupation. The nest was not observed to be occupied.
The size of the nest and the presence of the species in the area make it likely that the nest has
