Vertical Clearance: Unimpaired DESCRIPTION UNDER STRUCTURE Channel Description: (E) of str,: Natural, well defined; (W) of str.: beach CONDITION TEXT CONDITION OF STRUCTURE Girder condition: Girder #1 - 1.2 m long x 0.3 m deep spall along the bottom, and there are 20% lost section of the first bottom steel layer and 15% lost section of the second bottom steel layer. Girder #2 - spall along the whole length and 20% lost section of the bottom steel layer. Girder #3 - spall along both corners, stating at 2 m from abutment 1, and 5% lost section of the bottom steel layer Girder #4 - spall along the whole west face, and 5% lost section of the bottom steel layer. Girder #5 - severe crack 5 m long turning into big spall, and 5% lost section of the bottom steel layer. Girder #6 - spall 2 m long of the west face of girder near abutment 2, and 20% lost section of one rebar of bottom steel layer. Girder #7 - spall along the bottom corner and 100% lost section of one rebar of bottom steel layer. Girder #8 - 2 m long x 12 mm wide crack along the west face. East barrier rail has several moderate to severe size vertical cracks. AC overlay has some transverse cracks near the abutment areas. SAFE LOAD CAPACITY Load capacity calculations dated 11/16/2005 indicate that the safe load-carrying capacity of this structure has changed as follows: Inventory rating = 10.9 metric tonne Operating rating =18.1 metric tonne Type 3 = 18 tons (legal load = 25 tons) Type 3S2 = 28 tons (legal load = 36 tons) Type 3-3 = 34 tons (legal load = 40 tons) The capacity is controlled by bending in girder #7. This was calculated using the LFD method. No permit loads are acceptable or the allowable permit load shall not exceed the safe load-carrying capacity listed above. RECOMMENDED POSTING The recommended posting for this structure is: Safe Load Capacity Type 3 = 18 tons Type 3S2 = 28 tons Type 3-3 = 34 tons This structure is qualified for replacement; the city should expedite the replacement project to unsure the safety crossing on the bridge In the mean time the city should switch the traffic from the deteriorated girders at the west side to the east side, which the girder are in better condition. I contact the city engineer Mr. John Cahill at (760 602-2726). HISTORY As mentioned before starting from report dated June 6th, 1984 to replace.the bridge as soon as possible, because the bridge is in critical condition.
