The tests were performed during the last week of February 1999, in accordance with UBC 29-2 Standard procedures. The results are provided in order to follow the recommendations in our soils reports and the post-tensioned slab plans for soils classified as low to medium expansive, and also for highly expansive. The test results were as follows: tot Nos, El Test Soil Expansion Minimum Foundation Result Classification Depth 1 68 Medium 18" 2, 3 54 Medium 18" 4, 5, 6 46 Low 18" 7, 8 53 Medium 18" 9, 10 47 Low 1811 11 45 Low 18" 12, 13 39 Low 18" 14 45 Low 1 8" 15, 16 93 High 24" 17, 18 53 Medium 18" 19, 20 49 Low 18" 21, 24 72 Medium 18" 22, 23 84 Medium 18" 7420 TRADE STREET• SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA 92121 • (619) 549-7222 • FAX: (619) 549-1604 ., -Laurel Tree Apartment Project Carlsbad, California Job No. 95-6794 Page 2 In general, the foundations shall be embedded 18 inches into the ground for low to medium expansive soils, and 24 inches for highly expansive soils. The depth of foundation shall be measured from the lowest adjacent grade. Since the soils have varying expansion potential, it is recommended that the soil moisture content be maintained above the optimum by sprinkling the soil surface at least every other day. Allowing the soil to dry out may cause soil shrinkage and cracking and increase its expansion potential. Our field representative shall verify soil moisture adequacy and compaction within 48 hours prior to concrete placement for footings and slabs on grade. All other recommendations presented in our reports for this project remain applicable unless superseded in writing by our firm. LIMIIAIIONS The findings and opinions presented herein have been made in accordance with generally accepted principles and practice in the field of geotechnical engineering. No warranty either expressed or implied, is made. If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact our office. Reference to our Job No. 95-6794 will help to expedite a response to your inquiries. Respectfully submitted, G~~ONC. Jaime A. Cerros, P.E.
