SOIL TESflNG & INSPECTION SERVICES Project No. CL-1239 Bee Cee Development Company 3095 State Street Carlsbad, CA 92008 Subject: Report of Certification of Compacted Fill Ground Proposed Gruenwald Residence 1710 Bruce Drive Carlsbad, California . Gentlemen, In response to your request, the following report has been prepared to indicate results of soil tests, observations, and inspection of earth-work construction at the subject site. Testing and inspection was performed between October 9 and 12, 1984. Briefly, our findings reveal filled ground has been compacted to a minimum of ninety percent. Therefore, we recommend construction continue as scheduled. SCOPE: Our iirm was retairied to observe grading operations with regard trJ current standard practices and to determine the degree of compaction of placed fill. Grading plans were prep=?:: Dy Toal Engineering, Irc. dated July 17. lQE?'?. Reference is made tc a previously submitted report entitJn.1 "Soi: Investigation, proposed Gruenwald Resina?:,, 1/10 Bruce Drive, Carlsbad, CA." prcpared by c:;LLern California Soil and Testing, Inc. dated August 14, 1984. Approximate locations and depth of filled ground and extent of earth-work construction covered in this report are indicated on attached Plate No. 1 entitled "Test Location Sketch." The site was graded in order to create a level building pad and 2410 Glenridge Rd: Escondido, California 92027 (619) 741-5289 . COM*PACTION LABS, INC. SOIL TESTING & INSPECTtON SERVICES 9 . in accordance with recommendation; set forth in Southern California Soil and Testing, Inc. report dated August 14, 1984. LABORATORY TESTING: Representative soils samples were collected and returned to the laboratory for testing. Optimum moisture-maximum density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D-1557 and are tabulated on attached Plate No. 2. SOIL CONDITIONS: Native soils encountered were silty-sands. Fill soils were generated from the on-site excavation. The building site contains a transition from cut to fill. However, the site was excavated a minimum of 3 feet and brought to grade with compacted soil, Therefore, no consideration need -be given this characteristic, Expansive soils were not observed. Therefore, no special recommendations are required. Fill soils were placed, watered, and compacted in six inch lifts. Prior to earth-work construction, areas where fill was placed, were scarafied, watered, and compacted to a minimum of ninety percent. To determine the degree of compaction, field density tests were performed in accordance with ASTM D-1556 or D-2922 at the locations designated on attached Plate No. 1. A tabulation of test results and their vertical locations are presezted on attached Plate No. 2. During grading operations, all fill soils found to have a relative compaction of less than achieved. . nirlety percent were reworked until the proper compaction. :;as RECOMMENDATIONS RN? CGWCLUSIONS: Continuous inspectitin was neither requested nor warranted to verify fill soils were placed in accordance with cllrrqnt standard practices regarding grading anA e:, L~l-work construction. Therefore, the following recommendations are based on the premise that all areas tested are representative of the entire project. 1, Compacted.fil1 and natural ground have adequate strength to safely support the proposed loads. 2. Slopes are stable as constructed with relation to deep seated failure and provided they are properly .. COMPACTION LABS, INC. SOIL TESTING & INSPECTION SERVICES maintained. I 3. The Governing Board wishes to advise the city officials and residents of Carlsbad that, as residential units are added to the community, it is likely that many classes in the District will become crowded, resulting in possible impairment to the educational and transportational services offered to the students. It is also likely that school schedules may have to be changed, resulting in an increase in the year-round program, or double-sessions, or both. However, the District is able to assure you that school physical facilities will be available concurrent with need for this development as it is presently proposed.
