RE: 1734 ROGUE ISLE COURT; BUILDING PERMIT CB920197
Thank you for your recent inquiry into the quality of the inspection service provided by the city. -
I have spoken with the field inspectors involved in this project. I looked into the correction
required by Paul York and determined it to have been a legitimate concern.
The modification in the roof rafter mid-span support left the unsupported length of 2x4 rafter
in excess of what the Uniform Building Code allows. It was proper for Mr. York to ask for the
architect to revise the framing detail. Mer Camero (the inspector at the front counter) was
correct in determining that the rafter remained over spanned after the revision was proposed.
The field inspectors do their best to have the contractors follow the approved plans. When this
is impractical or the plan simply doesn't work in the field, they may require revisions to be
verified by a plan checker. This is especially important when the plan was prepared originally
by a licensed design professional. The inspector assumes design liability when they allow field
modifications without an acknowledgement by the architect or engineer.
I appreciate your feedback on the service provided by the city and should you have other
concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 438-1161 ext 4503.
