This plan review is limited to the technical requirements contained in the Uniform Building Code,
Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code and state laws
regulating energy conservation, noise attenuation and access for the disabled. This plan review
is based on regulations enforced by the Building Department. You may have other corrections
based on laws and ordinances enforced by the Planning Department, Engineering Department,
Fire Department or other departments. Clearance from those departments may be required
prior to the issuance of a building permit.
Code sections cited are based on the 1997 UBC.
The following items listed need clarification, modification or change. All items must be satisfied
before the plans will be in conformance with the cited codes and regulations. Per Sec. 106.4.3,
1997 Uniform Building Code, the approval of the plans does not permit the violation of any
state, county or city law.
To speed UP the recheck process, please note on this list (or a copv) where each
correction item has been addressed, i.e., plan sheet number, specification section, etc.
Be sure to enclose the marked up list when you submit the revised plans.

Please make all corrections on the original tracings, as requested in the correction
list. Submit three sets of plans for commerciallindustrial projects (two sets of plans
for residential projects). For expeditious processing, corrected sets can be
submitted in one of two ways:
1. Deliver all corrected sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department, 1635 Faraday Ave., Carlsbad, CA 92008, (760)
602-2700. The City will route the plans to EsGil Corporation and the Carlsbad
Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments.
2. Bring one corrected set of plans and calculations/reports to EsGil Corporation,
9320 Chesapeake Drive, Suite 208, San Diego, CA 92123, (858) 560-1468.
Deliver all remaining sets of plans and calculations/reports directly to the City of
Carlsbad Building Department for routing to their Planning, Engineering and Fire
Departments.
NOTE: Plans that are submitted directly to EsGil Corporation only will not be
reviewed by the City Planning, Engineering and Fire Departments until review by
EsGil Corporation is complete.
Provide a statement on the Title Sheet of the plans stating that this project shall
comply with the 2001 edition of the California Building Code (Title 24), which
adopts the 1997 UBC, 2000 UMC, 2000 UPC and the 1999 NEC.

2. Provide a section view of all new interior partitions. Show:

Type, size and spacing of studs. Indicate gauge for metal studs. Specify
manufacturer and approval number or indicate "to be ICBO approved".
Method of attaching top and bottom plates to structure. (NOTE: Top of
partition must be secured to roof or floor framing, unless suspended
ceiling has been designed for partition lateral load).
Wall sheathing material and details of attachment (size and spacing of
fasteners).
Show height of partition and suspended ceiling, and height from floor to
roof framing or floor framing.

3. Glazing in the following locations should be of safety glazing material in
accordance with Section 2406.4
a) Fixed or operable panels adjacent to a door where the nearest exposed
edge of the glazing is within a 24-inch arc of either vertical edge of the door
in a closed position and where the bottom exposed edge of the glazing is
less than 60 inches above the walking surface.
4. Exit corridors shall not be interrupted by intervening rooms. Section 1004.3.4.4.
5. Corridors shall have interior door openings protected by tight-fitting smoke and
draft control assemblies rated 20 minutes. Doors shall be maintained
self-closing or be automatic closing by action of a smoke detector per Section
713.2. Doors shall be gasketed to provide a smoke and draft seal where the door
meets the stop on sides and top. Section 1004.3.4.3.2.1.

6. If a room with an exhaust fan has a door opening into a rated corridor, show how
makeup air will be provided to the room. The door cannot be undercut, nor can a
louver in the door be provided. Section 1004.3.4.3.2.1.
7. Provide a note on the plans stating: "Penetrations of fire-resistive walls, floor--
ceilings and roof-ceilings shall be protected as required in UBC Sections 709 and
710."
8. Please revise the plans to show the required emergency egress lighting there
appears to be not enough fixtures to provide the required egress illumination per
section 1003.2.9 of the UBC.
9. Please have the author and designer sign the LTG-1 document imprinted on the
plans.
IO. Please imprint on the plans the City of Carlsbad Policies and Procedures for
Roof Mounted Equipment to the plans.
1 I. Please provide plans and calculations signed by the California State licensed
engineer or architect for the structural support of the 870# rooftop air handler
units. Include all calculations and finding on the plans. Please include the
California license number, seal, date of license expiration and date plans are
signed. Business and Professions Code.
12. Indicate the location on the plans of the approved fixture to receive the main
condensate discharge from air conditioning units. (UMC Section 309).
13. Please have the author and designer sign the imprinted MECH-1 form.
14. Show that water heater is adequately braced to resist seismic forces. Provide
two straps (one strap at top 1/3 of the tank and one strap at bottom 1/3 of the
tank). UPC, Section 510.5.
15. Show P & T valve on water heater and detail drain line route from P & T valve to
the exterior. UPC Section 608.4.
16. Please revise the plumbing isometric to show the venting of the floor drains.
17. Show that grab bars comply with the following, per Section 11 15B.8:
a) They shall be securely attached 33" above the floor, and parallel.
NOTE: Where a tank-type toilet is used which obstructs placement of the rear grab
bar at 33", the rear grab bar only may be installed as high as 36".
Please revise the plans to show a disabled accessible transaction counter located
at a section of counter that is at least 36" long and no more than 28" to 34" high.
