Earlier earthwork observation and testing reports dated February 23 and August 22, 1979 were issued for the mass grading operations. In addition, earthwork and building foundation recommendations were presented in our letter report dated June 20, 1979. Based on our inspections the materials exposed in the footing excavations consisted essentially of firm undisturbed and/or compacted fill soils as anticipated in the June 20, 1979 report. Based on our observations it is our opinion that the materials exposed in the footing excavations are suitable for the safe support of footings designed for the allowable bearing pressures recommended in the June 20, 1979 report. 10505 Roselle Street, Son Diego, California 9212! • (714) 453-5605 / 630 A/fa Vista Drive, Suite 105, Vista, California 92083 • (714! 758-9144 November 15, 1979 218-1D, 3081 Page 2 Our services consist of professional opinions and recommendations made in accordance with generally accepted soil and foundation engineering principles and practices. Subject to conditions as set forth in the Encroachment Permit the District does not object to the project. The District will be constructing a parallel pipeline within said easement in the near future. Formal action on granting the Encroachment Permit will be taken at the Board of Director's meeting of August 6, 1979. The granting of the Encroachment Permit with conditions does not relieve the developer of said site of the responsibilities for maintaining existing facilities constructed or to be con- structed within the aforementioned easement. Consulting Soil, Foundation & Geological Engineers August 22, 1979 218-10,2920 Collins Development Company 11750 Sorrento Valley Road, Suite 209 San Diego, California 92121 Attention: Mr. John Kleeb Re: Earthwork Observation and Testing Services Parcel A, Lot 12 Palomar Airport Business Park - Unit No. 1 Carlsbad, California Gentlemen: In accordance with your request, we are providing earthwork observation and testing services in connection with the finish grading operations for construction of buildings on the subject site. An earlier earthwork observation and testing report dated Febru- ary 23, 1979 was Issued for the mass grading operations at the subject site. For the recent work our representative was present at the site on an intermittent basis from August 8 to August 21, 1979 to observe the finish grading operations and to provide field density testing services as required. The approximate locations of the field density tests are shown on the attached Site Plan, Figure 1 . The results of the field density and laboratory compaction tests are presented in the attached Tables A and B, respectively. Based on our observations and the attached test results, it is our opinion that the fill soils placed and compacted in connection with the recent finish grading operations were compacted to a minimum degree of compaction of 90 percent as determined by ASTM D1557-70. Accordingly, it is our opinion that Building Pads A, B and C have been satis factorily completed and suitably prepared for construction of the proposed buildings. Work remaining at the site which will require additional earthwork testing and inspection services includes 1) placement and compaction of storm drain and utility trench backfills, 2) preparation and compaction of the pavement subgrade soils, and 3) placement and com paction of the pavement baserock materials. 10505 Roselle Street Son Diego, California 92121 • (714) 453-5605 / 630 Alt a Vista Drive, Suife 105, Vista, California 92083 • (714) 758-9144 August 22, 1979 218-1D, 2920 AUG221979 COLLINS DEV. Polomar Offices Building Dear .Rix; This letter is in reference to the mechanical units on roof of the above referenced project. The mechanical units weigh 1,925 Lb. each and are to be directly lo- cated on each cloumn location. Therefore it does not create any additional flexural stresses to the glu-lam beams. However, it induces more load to the footing which is critical at columns on grid line "B" of the Building "B". The total load including mechanical unit is 39.3 kips (37.3k + 2k) and the capacity of 3'-6" square footing is 40.4kips(3.5 x 3.5 x 3.3ksf) which is larger than 39.3 kips. Therefore existing footings are adequate for the additional load from mechanical units. Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please call me at your convenience. Truly Yours, JC/dt
