This is to report the results of tesk and observations mode in order to inspect the compaction of filled ground placed on a portion of Lot 246 of Lo Costa Volley Unit No. 5, Son Diego County,
Compacted filled ground had previously been placed on this lot during the grading of this sub-
division and the results of tesk and inspections made during this initial grading period were
presented in our report of Proiect No. 70-5-1 lD, dated November 4, 1970.
The approximate area and depths of filled ground placed under our inspection in accordance
with the approved specifications ore shown on the attached Drawing No. 1, entitled "Location
of Compacted Filled Ground." The grading plan used for the placement of filled ground was
prepared by Rick Engineering Company, and revised January 21, 1972.
The approximate locations at which he task were taken ore shown on the attached Drawing
No. 1, and the final tart rasulk are presented on page 3, under the "Table of Test Resulk."
The labomtory determinations of the maximum dry densities and optimum moisture contenk of
the major fill materials ore presented on page 3, under the "Laboratory Test Resulk." The
tests wre taken on the dotes indicated below:
.. California. The fill was placed during the period between May 18, 1972, and May 23, 1972.

The final resulk of tesk and observations indicate that the compacted filled ground has been
placed at 90 percent of the maximum dry density or greater. It has been determined that the fill materials, compacted to 90 percent of the maximum dry density, hove a safe bearing value
of 2500 pounds per square foot for one foot wide continuous footings founded at a minimum depth
and placed five feet or more inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes. If footings are
placed closer to the exposed slopes than 5 feet inside the top of compacted filled ground slopes,
these should be deepened one foot below an 8 horizontal to 1 vertical line projected outward
and downward from a point 5 feet horizontally inside the top of compocted filled ground slopes.
Expansive sandy clay and clay soils were placed in the compacted fill area and it is recommended
that the following special design and precuations be taken for footings ond slabs constructed on
these soils in order to minimize the effect of the potential expansion:
1. Use continuous interconnected reinforced footings throughout, and
place these at a minimum depth of two feet below the lowest adjacent
exterior final ground surface.
2. Reinforce and interconnect continuously with steel ban all interior and
exterlor footings with a minimum of two #4 ban at 3 inches above the
bottom of all footings and two #4 ban placed 1 1/2 inches below the
top of the stems of the footings.
3. Reinforce all 4 inch concrete slobs within living oreas with a minimum
of 6 x 6 - 6/6 welded wire fabric and provide 2 inches of sand over a
6 mil Polyethylene moisture barrier that in turn is underlain by a base
layer of at lest 4 inches of 3/4 to 1 inch size crushed rock.
4. The 4 inch garage slabs should be reinforced by a minimum of 6 x 6 - 6/6 welded wire fabric and these garqe slabs should be separated
from perimeter footings by 1/2 inch thickness of construction felt or
equivalent, to allow independent movement of gorge slabs relative
to perimeter footings. Assure complete seporotion by extending the
construction felt over the full depth of the front thickened edge of the
garcge slab. Cut off garage door stops at least 1/2 inch above the
gorge slab. The base layer beneath the garage slabs shall be 4 inches
of 3/4 inch to 1 inch size crushed rock.
5. Provide positive draincrge away from all perimeter footings with a fall of
at lest 6 inches in a horizontal distance of 5 feet outside the house walls.
