This section of shear wall is to be sheathed with 3/8'
Plywood and be shear nailed with Gd 04 Panel-edges and Gd
012"Fi.eld. it is my preifessiorial opoiriior that the subcct sh.ar

Masonry Chimney Extension
An anchor plate (TGAP) is used to
attach Metal-Fab 21000 F. Chimney to a
masonry chimney.
Apply a bed of mortar approximately
3/4 inches deep, approximately 1 inch larger
than the anchorplate. around the flue opening
of the masonry fireplace (See TO chimney
catalog for anchor plate dimensions).
Insert four (4)1/4-20 x 2" bolts, head
down into the mortar with spacing thatwill be
approximately 1/2 inch irisidetheouteredge
dimension of the anchor plate.
Drill 5/16 inch diameter holes into the
anchor plate to match bolt locations.
Before mortar sets, place the anchor
plate over the bolts and press down into the
mortar. Loosely attach a washer and nut on
each stud.
S. Use a level to check the installation,
assuring that the TO chimney connection is
level.
When the mortar has set up, tighten
the nuts and proceed to stack Metal-Fab
chimney p!pe (TG) on the anchor plate.
See "Flashing Instructions" and
"Termination" sections.
Note: Existing masonry flues may be
extended with TO pipe by using an anchor
plate, provided that:
The existing masonry chimney is
structurally sound, and
The flue extension is properly sized
so that the appliance attached to the
flue drafts properly.
Elbow Installation
Metal-Fab provides a 15° (TGA15
and 300 TGA30) Elbow to allow chimneys
to avoid framing member or roof peaks. A
maximum of 30 degrees from the vertical is
allowed, and a total of four elbows (two pair)
for each chimney installation. Maintain two
(2) Inches air space to combustibles.
NOTE: For offset combinations, see
Table 3 and illustration.
Attach the elbow to the chimney pipe
or other support part and twist to lock. Using
the offset chart, add chimney sections
between elbows. A support band (TGSB) is
required at the upper elbow of the pair to
support the load, as shown in Figure 17.
Attach the upper elbow to bring chimney
back to vertical.

Re: Approval of As-Built structural changes, 2390 Ocean St.
Mr and Mrs Sumner owners.
Gentlemen:
This is to advise you that I have personally inspected the
subject changes and find them to be satisfactory for the
vertical and lateral forces I have calculated for this structure.
I have formed this professional opinion after gathering data and
analyzing the following:
The diagonal steel brace would have resulted in a poor
exterior appearance and would have produced rotational forces on
the Southeast corner of the addition. I therefore directed the
contractor to strap and bolt the Southerly Glulam into the
existing upper garage floor to carry lateral forces to the shear
walls via that floor.
Two 4x8 treated wood columns were constructed adjacent to
existing concrete walls and it was therefore impossible to use
thru bolts. For this reason and given the fact that neither
column will be subjected to uplift and are not a part of any
shear wall, I approve the use of Lag Bolts from one side only
which will be sufficient to prevent the columns from being offset
from their post bases.
It is my professional opinion that the above changes
will render the structure satisfactory for the support of the
imposed loads.
Thank you for this opportunity to
contact me if additional information or
be of service. Please

Raymond Holcomb
2958 Madison, Suite 101
Carlsbad, California 92008
Subject: Limited Soils Investigation
Proposed House Addition
2390 Ocean Street
Carlsbad, California
Dear Mr. Holcomb:
In response to your request, we have performed a limited soils
investigation for the subject project. The scope of our invest-
igation was to determine the on-site soil conditions and provide
foundation design criteria with regard to the proposed addition.
It is our understanding the proposed 2nd story house addition will
be - constructed above the existing entryway and dining room and
extend to the west between the main house and the existing garage.
The area to receive the addition around the residence is pre-
dominantly flat and surfaced with concrete walkways and slabs.
Our field investigations were performed on April 20, 1993 and April
23, 1993 and included an inspection of the site and the excavation
of three hand dug test pits to a depth of 4.5 feet below existing
grade. LoOations of test pits are delineated on the attached Plate
No. One, entitled, "Test Pit Location Plan".
As excavation proceeded, representative soil samples were collected
and returned to the laboratory for testing to determine the
characteristics of the on-site soils.
Loose surfical soils (silty-sands) consisting of old fill were
found to be 4 feet, 3.5 feet and 3 feet in depth in Test Pit. No. s
1, 2, & 3 respectively. Underlying native soils to depths explored
were dense silty-sands of the Coastal Terrace Deposit.
Expansive soils were not observed during our investigation,
Therefore, no special consideration need be given with regard to
this characteristic.

The existing residence was found to be underlain by relatively
shallow compressible fill soils. Therefore, we recommend
foundations be designed to support the proposed addition
independently. This will require footings to be deepened as
necessary to penetrate through loose surfical fill soils and bear
a minimum of 18 inches into the underlying formation. We should be
contacted to inspect all foundation excavations prior to pouring to
assure footings will be founded in the recommended soil bearing
stratum.
Continuous footings having a minimum width of 15 inches founded a
minimum depth of 18 inches into undisturbed native soil will have
an allowable soil bearing pressure of 2500 pounds per square foot.
Isolated footings 24 inches square founded a minimum of 18 inches
into firm native ground will have an allowable soil bearing
pressure of 2500 pounds per square foot.
The above soil bearing pressure may be increased one-third when
considering wind and/or seismic forces.
All continuous footings should be founded a minimum of 18 inches
into firm native ground and reinforced with one 4. bar top and
bottom. Steel should be positioned 3 inches above bottom of footing
and 3 inches below top of footing.
It should be noted, due to the old fill* soils underlying the
existing residence, Compaction Labs, Inc., cannot assume

responsibility for future structural damage occurring to the
existing residence. The owner may consider having the Project
Structural Engineer evaluate the foundations at the residence with
regard to the settlement of fill soils that could possibly occur
beneath the existing construction.:
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
This opportunity to be of service is sincere D ated.
