Minimum No. 9 gauge wire or the equivalent is required for horizontal
reinforcement in anchored veneer in Seismic Zone No. 3. Section 30.10 (a)
of U.B.C. Standards. Ties should be anchored to this reinforcement.
Exterior veneer more than 20 feet In heIght attached to wood framing is not
allowed unless provisions for differential movement are approved by you.

Conformance with research recomcendation conditions is required or justifying data should be submitted under Section 106.
Unless specifically allowed by a research recommendation or substantiated with
test data under Section 106, special coverings for decks, balconies, patios, etc., cannot replace any part of a fire-resistive assembly In reference to Footnote No. 14, Table No. 43-c. Attention Is directed to
Fire-resistive systems invo1vIn wood trusses should comply with applicable
research recommendtIons. Conventional fire-resistive systems using wood
Joists are not applicable. An H Cupancy more than tw stories in height or having more than 3000
square feet above the first floor should be of one-hour fire-resistive
construction throughout. Section 1302 (b).
The following rooms should have window areas as specified in Section 1305 (a)
(140512)), one-half of which is openable.
Mechanical ventilating system in baths should provide five air changes per hour directly to the outside. Section 1305 (a). Section 1405 (a).
Fan capac1.ty should be specified.
Windows from should not be considered as ftrnlanlng required light or ventilation since they do not
open to a yard, court, or street in accordance with Section 1305 (a).

length. For courts more than two stories in height, the required width

Handrails should be placed not less than 30 inches nor more than 34 inches above the tread. Section 3305 (i). Two handrails are required where
stairways exceed 44 inches in width. (No handrails if less than four
risers.)
Guardrails for stairs, balconies, and landings should conform with Sec-
tion 1714. Note that maximum clearance between intermediate rails is
9 inches and rail height should be 42 inches.
Openings in exterior walls within 10 feet of exterior stairways should be
protected vith self-closing three-fourths-hour Lire-resistive assemblies.

Enclosed usable space under interior stairways should be protected on the
enclosed side as required for'cne-hour fire-resistive construction.
