SUBJECT: SDG&E NORTH COAST C+O WALL/FENCING AND GATE IMPROVEMENTS

The city has received the attached exhibits regarding a request for fencing and gate improvements
proposed at the SDG&E North County C+O located at 5016 Carlsbad Boulevard. The proposed gate
improvements would be five feet maximum height, and the proposed fencing would be a combination of
the existing CMU block wall with wrought iron fencing installed on top to extend up to a maximum height
of ten feet.
Planning Department Administrative Policy No. 5 allows the City Planner to approve wails/fences over six
feet in height in non-residential zones including the Public Utility Zone without requiring a variance. After
careful consideration of the request, the City Planner hereby APPROVES the proposed wall/fencing and
gate improvements at the SDG&E North Cost C+O, subject to the following conditions:
1. Either the exterior face of the existing CMU block wall adjacent to Carlsbad Boulevard shall have
a stucco coat applied to the wall along the frontage of Carlsbad Boulevard or the landscaping
between the existing CMU block wall and Carlsbad Boulevard shall be restored/upgraded to a
healthy, vigorous condition in accordance with the requirements of the City of Carlsbad Landscape
Manual.
2. The use of barbed or razor wire, wrought iron spikes or similar sharp or pointed treatments is
prohibited.
