HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-10-09; City Council; Resolution 2201 8 3 4 5 6 7 a 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 RESOLUTION NO. 220 RESOLUTION URGING THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO PLAN FOR THE CONSTRUC- TION OF A TWO COURTROOM FACILITY IN THE CQNTWMTED OCEANSIDE BRANCH COUNTY BUILDING. "HEWAS, it appears that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego are contemplating the construction of an Oceanside Branch County Building, which contemplated construction will include court facilities for the Oceanside Municipal Court; and WIGREAS, it appears that the tentative plans for such proposed building will provide accommodation for only one courtroom; and StJHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Carlsbad utilize and are served by the Oceanside Municipal Court; and WHEREAS, it appears that one courtroom is presently in- adequate to meet the demands of Justice, such inadequacy existing by virtue of the fact that the Oceanside Municipal Court carries a large burden of traffic cases, and that the Oceanside Municipal Court serves the municipal court needs of all Northern San Diego County, which results in a heavy civil case load, and that the Oceanside Municipal Court is caused to handle the criminal docket of the City of Carlsbad and the City of Oceanside, which criminal docket includes all civil defenses commended by the large military personnel stationed at Camp Pendleton, California; and WHEREAS, it appears that the citizens of the City of Carlsbad, and the City of Oceanside would suffer inconvenience and deprivation of Justice by the construction of a branch county building that included accommodation for but one courtroom; and WEEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad has been informed that The Bar Association of Northern San Diego County has proposed, approved and recommended tentative plans of a county service building which includes accommodations for two 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 a 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 courtrooms, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carlsbad does hereby recommend to the Board of Super- visors of San Diego County that they reconsider the present oounty proposed tentative plan for the Oceanside Branch County Building, IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Carlsbad does hereby recommend to the Board of Supervisors of San Diego County that they propose new tentative plans for the Oceanside Branch County Building, which new proposed plans shall include accommodations for two courtroom facilities, BE IT FURTHER FESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and he hereby is instructed to forward copies of this Resolution to the Board of Supervisors of San Diego County, to Supervisor Dean Howell, and to the Foreman of the San Diego County Grand Jury, PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of October, 1956, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: NO€S: None ABSENT: None Castorena, Hilton, Ledgerwood, Robinson and Baird ATTEST : h.8.
