RESOLUTION NO, 655
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD
UKGING PnESERVATION OF CARLSBAD STATION aS A FREIGHT FACILITY.
WHEREAS, the Public Utility Commissicm has allowed the Santa Fe
Railway Company to close its Carlsbad Station temporarily, subject to the
company maintaining the station; and
WHEREAS, some persons have proposed that said station be moved to be
used as the headquarters of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, a Model
Railway Club, or a Museum; and
WHERW, the population of Carlsbad has doubled in the last ten years
and the City now stands on the threshold of rapid population growth and
industrial development; and
WHEREAS, industrial development is dependent upon adequate transporta-
tion facilities, including rail transportation; and
WHEREAS, the station could be rented to private persons to handle
freight shipments;
NOW, TH3EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council finds
the highest and most advantageous use of the Carlsbad Station at this time is
as a freight facility; that to move said station would be detrimental to the City’s
economic welfare, and that as soon as the freight traffic warrants, the Carlsbac
station should be reopened to adequately serve this community as a rail freight
facility.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City
Council held on the 8th day of June, 1960, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Guevara, Bierce, Sonneman, McPherson and La Roch
