HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-12-04; City Council; Resolution 8643 2 1 c 4 G 7 E 9 IC 11 li 1: 14 15 fE 3.7 If 1s 2c 21 2; 2; 24 2: 2t 2; 2E 25 3E 31 34 RESOLUTION NO. 864 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD VIGOROUSLY OPPOSING ANY LEGISLATION PERMITTXNG OR SANCTIONING THE USE OF PARTISAX POLITICAL LABELS BY MUNICIPAL OFFICE CANDIDATES. WHEREAS, an Assembly Committee has been investigating the possibil- ity of permitting a candidate for any city office to have printed fallowing his name on the ballot designation of the political party with which he was affiliated: and WEIEREX3, there are indications that legislation will be introduced in the 1963 general session of the legislature which would permit a candidate for any city office to designate his political party on the ballot; and WHEREAS, passage of such legislation and the introduction of partisan affiliations into elections would tend toward controls being imposed by out of city and out of state factions, and would be extremely damaging to good govern- ment and local control of municipal affairs; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Carlsbad resolves as follows: Section 1. That by these presents it formally and vigorously voices its opposition to the enactment of any legislation which would permit the use of partisan political labels for candidates for municipal offices. Section 2. The City Clerk shall notify State Senator elect Jack Schrade, Assemblyman elect Hale Ashcraft, and the City Council of the City of Long Beact of the passage of this resolution of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad at a regular meeting held on December 4, 1962, by the following vote AYES: Councilmen Guevara, Bier ce, McPherson, Neiswender and Hugh( NOES: None ABSENT: None ATTEST: (SEAL) of the City of Carlsbad, Carlsbad, California "
