HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-03-07; City Council; Resolution 1960RESOLUTION NO. 1960 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD URGING THE STATE LEGISLATION TO PROHIBIT FILMS PORTRAYING NUDITY AND SEXUAL ACTIVITIES IN OUTDOOR THEATRES. WHEREAS, motion picture presentations are being made in outdoor theaters near the community of Carlsbad, which have as a part of the content thereof scenes portraying nudity and sexual activities and in some situations sadistic actions, and WHEREAS, in many situations the “rating” of these films would re- quire permission to enter the theater and view the film by either permission of the parents of a minor child or implied permission by the accompaniment of the minor child by the parents, and WHEREAS, the presentation of the motion picture in an outdoor theater exposes the content of the film to all persons, including minor children, whether on the public street or in buildings in the theater area who have a view of the screen, and WHEREAS, many instances of the distraction of operator of motor vehicles on the public road and the exposure of minor shildren and adults who do not wish to view these films in buildings and areas surrounding the film cannot be avoided; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that: The San Diego County Division of the League of California Cities is urged to strongly recommend to the League of California Cities the proposal of legislation to prohibit the exhibition of motion pictures portraying scenes of nudity, secual activity and sadistic actions in outdoor theaters in the - 1- St at e of California . PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 7th day of March , 1972, by the following vote: AYES: Cmn.
