The City Council of the City of Carlsbad does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Carlsbad did on July 6, a salary plan for the City of Carlsbad for 1971-72, NOW THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution 1971, adopt lo. 1873 datec July 6, 1971, is amended by addition of job description and classification for Principal Civil Engineer, salary Range 51, as set forth on Exhibit "A" attached and incorporated herein. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED at a meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held March 21, 1972, by the following vote, to wit: AYES : Cmn. Dunneg McComas, Jardine and Lewis. City of Carlsbad PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER De f ini t ion This is an Administrative and Professional class in the Engineering Series with duties involving the organization and supervision of major functions in the Engineering Division and doing related work as required, direction. Duties are performed under general Typical Tasks Assigns, supervises, gives instructions, administers , and acts upon engineering problems in connection with standards and designs involved in streets and street improvements, sanitary sewers, water systems, drainage facilities and structures, preparation of complete drawings, plans, estimates, and preliminary reports for construction and improvement projects, proceedings for projects provided for by State gas tax funds, and the acts of 1911 and 1913 regarding special assessment districts; supervises traffic engineering; supervises the checking of maps and plans of tentative and final subdivisions for compliance with local regulations and regulations of the State Sub- division Map Act: assigns field parties in the collection of necessary data: reviews the preparation of legal descriptions and grant deeds for easements and street rights-of-way: reviews plans and designs for conformance to standards and specifications: supervises the design of street and sanitary sewer grades: prepares reports and engineering es- timates in connection with various public works projects: confers with other City personnel, representatives of other public and private agencies, and the public, regarding engineering aspects of City work. Emp lo yme nt S t andards Traininq and Experience - Any combination equivalent to grauation from college with a major in civil engineering, or related fields, and four years of increasingly responsible civil engineering design, con- struction, and surveying experience. Knowledges and Abilities - Knowledge of the principles and prac- tices of civil, structural, and hydraulic engineering related to munic- ipal public works activities, including surveys, plans, and engineering design: knowledge of engineering construction techniques , methods , and equipment; knowledge of surveying: knowledge of design principles and the preparation of engineering specifications and plans: ability to coordi- nate the work of professional and non-professional engineers; ability to prepare reports, specifications, and contract documents; ability to es- tablish and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel and the public. Special Requirement - Registration as a professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
