HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-05-16; City Council; Resolution 2016I i .i 4 P e r 1 I $ 1( 11 1: 1: 1L If 1t 1: 1t 15 2( 21 2: 21 24 2: 2e 25 2E 25 3c 31 si RESOLUTION NO. *O16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD OPPOSING ATTEMPT TO ALTER THE METHOD OF LEVYING, COLLECTING AND DISTRIBUTING THE UNIFORM SALES AND USE SALES AND USE TAX LAW. TAX UNDER THE BRADLEY-BURNS UNIFORM LOCAL WHEREAS, the existing formula for distribution for local sales taxes has been in effect for fifteen (15) years; and WHEREAS, this City and others have been planned and developed in re- liance on such formula, and have made commitments pursuant thereto; and WHEREAS, cities which have developed without a Sales Tax base now desire to change such formula for their own benefit; and, WHEREAS, this City Council is of the opinion that any change in the State Sales Tax distribution formula would adversely and unjustly deprive its citizenry of tax revenues due it. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD DOES REREBY RESOLVE that: SECTION 1. That this City Council vigorously opposes any and all efforts to alter the law providing for the levy, collection and distribution of the local sales and use taxes as a direct and outright violation of the principle of Home Rule, and for the further reason that such attempts will necessarily result in gross inequity and financial hardship to many cities. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolutior and provide for appropriate distribution thereof. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOFTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, held on the 16 th day of May, 1972, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Cmn. Dunne, McComas, Lewis, Chase and Frazee. NOES: None. ABSENT: N 0 ne. of Carlsbad, California ATTEST: City’ Prk -1- 4
